Caressed by Twilight is an advanced RPG based loosely on the works of Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry Series as well as Anita Blake; Vampire Hunter Series. We are an original Role Play forum that has Mythical Creatures as well as Lycans.
Many, many years ago, the famed Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau cursed New Orleans for accusing her of terrible crimes against humanity. So with her powerful grisgris, she summoned from ancient mythology, various creatures that humans don't normally see, much less believe in. She had planned on using them to do her bidding; but passed away before she could begin. The overly religious people of New Orleans rejoiced at her passing. While her own people were saddened and heart broken. As the years passed, her people nurtured the mythical creatures, hiding them within the population until such a time would come to pass that they could live in the open. Slowly, and with reluctance, the mythical creatures learned how to live and survive in a world they had never seen before and eventually, they were no longer fearful and began to live among the populace. It took many years, but the city has finally embraced these creatures, knowing that they only add to the mystery that is New Orleans.

Back Story
For as long as this world has been here, I; Memnoch, have watched humanity go from creeping things in the slime and muck, to the many different nationalities that are found around the globe. Throughout the millennia, I have seen the Rise and Fall of Rome. I have witnessed man's inhumanity toward other men. I have seen the slaughter of innocent people and the destruction of countries. It all seems to come from the need for power and chaos. I'm tired and the years have been long. I feel the weight of this world pressing down heavily upon me. I have been the guardian of this planet. My God giving it to me as a gift when I cast down an evil entity and smote his body deep in the bowels of the Earth. I still don't know whether I should thank him, or curse him. So I watch, and I listen to the prayers of the weak and the powerful.
One such woman prayed to her God for deliverance from her enemies. I took on the form of her God and answered her cries for vengeance. This woman was named Marie Laveau, a priestess in the art of Voodoo. To her, the people in a city called New Orleans, those who didn't understand her religion, called her evil and wicked. Called her a witch and killed many of her followers. Her heart was sore and when I asked her what she wanted from me, she said vengeance. She wanted to call forth creatures from mythological times and bring them to New Orleans to do her will. I laughed and knew that she alone would not be able to do this. But because it amused me and I was dreadfully bored at the time, I granted her request and brought these creatures here from the worlds where they dwelt.
I opened the portal between the worlds and allowed her to bring them forth. I asked her what she would do with them now that she had them and she replied that she would use them to lay the city of New Orleans to waste. I was delighted to hear this and sat back to watch. And I must admit that I grew rather fond of her and the strength she possessed. It invigorated and refreshed me, not to mention giving me something to do other than watch the years drag by. But alas, the beautiful priestess was already old and her body was giving out on her. While she lay on her deathbed, I knelt beside her and whispered into her ear just one question. Did she want to leave the withered body behind and be born again into a new, young body? And keep all her power and the knowledge she possessed and to my surprise, she told me no.
As her breathing grew ragged and the light began to fade from her glorious eyes, she only held my hand and whispered to her family to keep the creatures safe. "Nurture and look after them. Help them fit in here." She drew in one long, slow breath and turned her face to look at mine; she smiled. "And from you I want...." she closed her eyes and released that breath. Her grip on my hand loosened and it fell to the bed beside her and she was dead. I saw her spirit leave her body and flow upward and into the bright light of the afterlife. I rested my head on her shrunken chest and cried. I wept for the wise lady. I wept for those she left behind. I wept for myself.
I stayed in New Orleans for her funeral, and it was done in grand New Orleans fashion. With the body laid out in the front parlor and the family weeping, wailing and beating their chests in grief. She was laid to rest and turning to her kin, I spoke. "Thus I charge you to look after these creatures. Help them learn. Nurture them and keep them safe. For in the future, they will be important to the safety of this city." I had to take my leave then. I had to get away from the city that had become almost like home to me. The woman who treated me like a son was gone. And for a time I had to wander the face of the Earth and seek solace away from her kith and kin.
So it has come to pass that the creatures are now very important to the city of New Orleans. There is chaos and whether they know it or not, they and the other immortals are the only thing keeping the city from total destruction.
I have returned now. I am here to watch and protect. Just as I was asked to do on that day many years ago. And I shall not fail. I vow it.
